The Convent of the Sisters of St Joseph was founded in 1760 approximately. In those days many people followed their religious vocation. The convent expressed an atmosphere of poverty and modesty. Yet hundreds of young women were attracted by the Convent as the sisters of St Joseph offered to teach them.
When my wife and I settled at the Ancient Convent we immediately experienced the spiritual magic and calmness of the Convent. When we started the restauration of the Convent we carefully preserved the uniqueness of the convent’s atmosphere. Its architecture is typical for a convent in that the central hallway gives access to separate rooms at either side of this ‘street’. The large living room has a magnificent open fire place. It serves as a warm and attractive meeting point for our guests. In the same room we surprise our guests by serving traditional French dishes that have almost been forgotten nowadays. Of course we added several of our own culinary creations to the Ancient Convents’ menu as well.
When the weather is favourable we serve the aperitif in our small and shady garden. The climate in Nozières is moderate due to its altitude of almost 1000 meters. In summer the temperature is pleasant and never too high to enjoy the warmth and friendliness of its natural monasterial atmosphere.
